On the dance floor under the stars
A glimpse of who you are twirls into the night
And you remember long ago
A little girl walks in the snow on her way to ballet school
She slips on some ice and falls to the ground
The other kids laugh, she calls for their help
Her leg has been hurt, but they all run away
She’s cold and she’s wet, and it’s slippery still
She tries to get up, it takes all of her will
She’s determined to make it to school and not be late
She dreams of dancing
You won’t fall down now that you’re dancing
And in the passing years
Another set of tears when your best friend died on day
Lynne was sixteen and full of fun
You shared so much, you felt as one
Then a drunk driver got in the way
How can you live when your heart is ripped out
Part of you dies, the other numbs out
There’s no place to run, but the dance floor is where you hide
Ballet is the place where the pain finally comes
Pirouette now, your grieving’s begun
She wants you to smile, she want you to live her life
And dream of dancing
Your friend is with you when you’re dancing
In the ballroom you are free
With your dance partner, you waltz in harmony
As you fly, two tango in time
It’s your dream as you rumba
It’s your love as you samba
Just dance
Well college did not work out
Can still hear your parents shout how will you ever get a decent job
So you married young instead to a nice guy, his name was Ted
Almost had a baby boy
Well one day you woke up and thought you were in love
But your husband was gone, he took all of his stuff
Divorce papers signed, on your own again
Got some kind of job to pay for the rent
But your dream could not die, nor your spirit consent
So you followed your heart to the dance floor once again
To teach us dancing
You’re teaching dancing
You won’t fall down now that you’re dancing
Your friend is with you when you’re dancing
Under the stars we are dancing
Keep on dancing
